Dive into the captivating tale of St George’s Hall and become a vital part of our interactive tour.  Engage with visitors from all over the world, guide them through the old prison cells, and witness the historic courtroom drama unfold!

In this volunteering role, you will be in position both in the entrance and along the tour route helping and assisting our visitors.

VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION

ROLE TITLE: History Whisperer Volunteer
LOCATION: The History Whisperer Exhibition, St George’s Hall
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: To welcome and direct visitors around the exhibition to ensure they have a great experience on the tour
RESPONSIBLE TO: Tours Supervisor

Background:

We are looking to recruit volunteers to assist with our interactive History Whisperer tour. In this role you will be welcoming people in to the building and interacting with visitors from all over the world. The History Whisperer tour takes people to the old prison cells and court room with a view of the Great Hall at the end. It brings the building to life and tells the story of the St George’s Hall in an engaging and immersive way. In this volunteering role, you will be in position both in the entrance and along the tour route helping and assisting our visitors. If you are passionate about the history of the city and love engaging with people then this is a brilliant opportunity for you.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Welcoming visitors to the History Whisperer exhibition.
  • Providing information on the exhibition to visitors.
  • Directing visitors around between the installations located throughout St George’s Hall.
  • Working as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the History Whisperer exhibition.
  • Reporting any issues to the Tours Supervisor or other St George’s Hall staff

 

KEY SKILLS:

  • Good communication skills
  • A professional and friendly manner
  • A moderate level of physical fitness as volunteers will need to walk around the exhibition and may also be required to stand for prolonged periods
  • Good timekeeping
  • Previous experience of working with the public may be useful but is not essential
  • An interest in local history is welcome, but not essential as full training will be provided

TIMES OF VOLUNTEERING

The History Whisperer is typically open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, and volunteers are needed between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00. Shifts will be split between morning 10:00 until 13:00 and afternoon 13:00 until 16:00.
