In its inaugural year, over 5,000 school pupils up and down the country have signed up to take part in a brand-new dance and fitness school competition hosted by Diverse Dance Mix (DDMIX) and none other than former prima ballerina and TV star Dame Darcey Bussell DBE.
The UK wide initiative, supported locally by Liverpool City Council and St George’s Hall, aims to engage children in creativity, culture, fitness and dance to address a generation where screen time often supersedes fitness time.
13 Liverpool schools have been chosen to take part in the regional final taking place on Thursday 6th June in one of the most iconic buildings in Liverpool situated in the city centre:
King David Primary, Dovedale Primary, St Silas C of E Primary, Longmoor Community Primary, Our Lady’s Bishop Eton Primary, Corinthian Primary, Leamington Primary, Northcote Primary, All Saints Catholic Primary, Wellesbourne Primary, Banks Road Primary, Holy Cross Catholic Primary and Gwladys Street Community Primary & Nursery School.
Pupils from years 3 to 7 (aged 7 to 12) are taking part, and these schools have been invited to St George’s Hall, where they will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform their DDMIX routine in front of Dame Darcey and a live audience for a chance to be crowned the overall regional winner!
The final will also see performances from specially invited guests including Britain’s Got Talent star, the mesmerising illusionist and magician, MADDOX, who will entertain the crowd with his unique talent, as well as the Magic Circle’s Wayne Fox.
Commenting on the forthcoming event in Liverpool, Dame Darcey, said: “I’m delighted to work with schools across the country during this exciting competition, promoting health and fitness through dance. Best of luck to you all!”
The UK competition tour, conceived and presented by Purple Shows Limited, includes seven regional finals May to July 2019 in Salisbury, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Aylesbury, Cardiff and Aberdeen.
